NO$GBA

[edit]

NO$GBA is a freeware Nintendo DS emulator for Microsoft Windows. It is capable of running commercial and homebrew Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS games, such as Pokémon Diamond which the latest version is able to run at full speed with no graphical glitches. NO$GBA stays freeware up to version 2.6, if the user cares to obtain version 2.6a he or she has to make a donation of $2.50.

It was considered by many communities the best Nintendo DS emulator due to the fact that it is capable of running most of the commercial games at full speed and without video/audio errors. It is considered by many to be the first Nintendo DS emulator running commercial ROMs, though others state that's already been countered by reports of successful emulation elsewhere.

NO$GBA was developed by Martin Korth.

[edit] History

The first public release was version 1.0 in March 13, 2002, starting out as a Gameboy Advance emulator giving little support homebrew and commercial roms. The last functional version as a Gameboy Advance emulator was 2.0g, released in March 25, 2005.

Martin Korth started working on Nintendo DS support in version 2.1, released in May 17, 2005, even though the emulator could not yet play homebrew nor commercial roms. It wasn't until January 22, 2006, when version 2.2 was released, that the emulator supported both homebrew and commercial roms. The support was still in development stages, and emulation would often run at a very low frame rate with many graphical glitches; many roms would not even run at all.

Version 2.3 was released in August 4, 2006, containing almost full Nintendo DS emulation support including 3D rendering.

Version 2.3b was released in November 4, 2006 now containing Nintendo DS sound emulation.

Version 2.3d was released in February 23, 2007 adding microphone support and improving 3D video rendering.

Version 2.4b was released in June 5, 2007 introducing for the first time Nintendo DS Wi-Fi emulation, with the application being able to send and receive packets but the information was still getting stuck in commercial games during the transmission.

Version 2.4d was released in August 21, 2007 improving Wi-Fi and wireless local communications being able to exchange authentications on Picto Chat, but the exchange of actual information was still impossible.

Version 2.4e was released in September 3, 2007 adding support for Action Replay and Codebreaker cheat codes.

Version 2.5 was released in October 4, 2007 being able to run the games at a faster frame rate thanks to CPU and 3D rendering improvements.

Version 2.5b was released in November 3, 2007 adding 3D frame skipping.

Version 2.6 was released in December 18, 2007 being able to run games at a higher frame rate thanks to the addition of 3D software rendering such as OpenGL.

Version 2.6a was released in January 23, 2008 being able to run games twice as fast than 2.6 thanks to general optimizations. This version can only be downloaded by making a donation of $2.50. Lately, however, making donations is no longer possible.

Martin Korth has not released a new version since January 23, 2008, nor has he been seen or heard from by anyone in the console emulation world since; his current whereabouts and status remain unknown. As such, the official project is presumed dead, but fan support still goes on.

[edit] NO$GBA Debugger

The NO$GBA Debugger is development tool for testing and debugging of Gameboy Advance and Nintendo DS software created by Martin Korth, supporting source level debugging, the tool is designed for programmers, it is useless for gamers. The application is not freeware, those who want to obtain it will have to make a payment according to the version of the debugger they want.
